Thanks so much for all your sweet words about Andrew and I getting engaged! I am always so interested in hearing peoples stories, so I thought I’d share a little bit about how we met, got engaged, why we kept it a quiet for almost 3 months, and where we are getting married.
Andrew and I met the summer after our freshman year of college in Park City, Utah. Andrew grew up in Park City, and my parents moved there after I graduated high school. That summer, he was a lifeguard and I taught swim lessons at the Park City Racquet Club. A job I very much did not want to take, but did so to appease my mother. Turned out to be the best job I ever had and my favorite summer, and not just because I met Andrew. We did not start dating until 3.5 years later, during our last semester of college.
Andrew and I got engaged at the beginning of July in Lake Arrowhead. It was a surprise trip, and the perfect getaway. There is some backstory and more details that if you ever want to get together for a glass of wine, I’ll happily share. Also, there is a video, and if I have enough of said wine, I would share.
Anyways, as to why we kept it quiet for 3 months. I always knew that I wasn’t going to publicly announce my engagement right when it happened. We didn’t plan on waiting three months, more like a couple weeks. I knew I wanted to tell as many friends and family in person as we could, and so logistically, it took longer than we thought. With the exception of one person, who I still wish I could hop on a plane and celebrate with, we were able to tell everyone in person and had the most fun seeing their excitement and enjoy it in person!
If you are not yet engaged, I very much recommend keeping it off social media and sharing the news in person. It was so fun to see your friends get excited and hug you and all the rest of the emotions that go along with engagements, in person. There is only so much joy you can have through text! I was slightly depressed when we told our last friend. But I cannot wait to celebrate the rest of the fun wedding events with them!
Andrew and I are planning to get married next summer in Park City, Utah at my family home. I wasn’t the sort of kid to dream of her wedding, or ever had a special spot in my hometown where I wanted to tie the knot. After spending that first summer in Park City, long before the thought of even marrying Andrew was in my head, I knew I wanted to get married at that house. When Andrew and I started talking about getting married, that house, and Park City in general, was the ever spot that we ever even considered. It is the most special place to me, and us and we cannot wait to share it with our friends and family next summer!
