I shared a sneak peek of this custom marble serving tray last Friday when I had some friends over for drinks and small plates.
It was so easy to make, I thought I would share how you can whip one up in a couple minutes for up coming summer BBQs, or a girls night in. All for less than $15!
Once I found the tile, I headed over to the cabinet section to get some handles for the sides. I went with these, but any option that screws in from the back will work (it will allow you to glue them on securely and discard, or save, the rest of the hardware). I love the idea of using knobs like this for a more colorful look.
When I got home, I used my paint pen (normally for projects I use these Sharpie paint pens which are great, last a long time, and are able to be wiped off with certain products if needed. But as I knew this would be washed and worn often I opted for this Decocolor pen, it is permeant permeant, meaning I cant wipe it off even with aceton, which was better for this project. There are pros and cons to each and it best to know which you need!) to write a fun saying and let it dry for about 10 minutes.
Then I used a small dab of this glue on both sides of the pull and pressed it down for about 30 seconds, and then repeated with the other pull on the other side.
You are ready to go right away!
Just a note, if you use the Deco pen and put food on top of it, it wont run, but there are chemicals in the pen that may be absorbed by the food. If you use the Sharpie pens, the paint could smudge and definitely get into your food. So either way, it is best to not put food directly on top of the words. You can always add a sheet of parchment paper and add food on top of that!
