Good morning and happy Monday. I hope you had a weekend full of adventures! My weekend, and most of my week last week, was spent sick on the couch. I had the most awful headache and it came out of no where! I feel like I have spent most of this year sick, and I hope I am paying all my dues upfront!
My weekend adventures were none, but I did spend time dreaming of this St. Patricks day treat.
I am sure you have seen these beautiful doughnuts floating around Instagram. California Doughnuts is actually located in Koreatown in LA, Andrew use to live a couple blocks away from it, and luckily I think we only went once or twice during that year. They didn’t have all the creative flavors and designs back then.
It is just a hole in the wall doughnut shop that you would never think of stopping in, unless you have heard of them. They have blown up in the past few years with their very simple, but very brilliant, idea of bright colors mixed with sugary cereal. Driving to Koreatown on a weekday morning is a bit of a feat, LA traffic and such, so I decided to try them out at home.
These doughnuts are easy to whip up for Thursday celebrations, no matter what you do, who doesn’t like doughnuts at a celebration.
You can use glazed doughnuts from the store or your favorite doughnut shop, I made my own from this recipe.
1 1/2 C powder sugar
1/4 C milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Green food dye (I use this stuff, it gives the strongest color)
In a stand mixer on medium speed, combine all ingredients, mix until well blended.
St. Patricks Doughnuts
- Take one plain doughnut, dip the top half in green glaze. Shake off excess glaze, place on rack.
- Sprinkle with LuckyCharms.
- Repeat until all doughnuts are covered.
