Today is the last day of my “intro month” at Modo Yoga, a hot yoga studio in my neighborhood, and even though I thought I would never sign up after the intro price, because I am not a yogi, I signed up for a 4 month membership package.I am still very much not a yogi, but let me explain why I got sucked in…
I have been looking for a “workout” plan that I can stick with and enjoy. I have refused on principal to join a gym, a cross fit studio, take boot camp, all because of the mentality that if i cant work out on my own, regularly, for free, why am I going to throw away money on something I won’t value.
A girlfriend mentioned that Modo offered “community karma classes” on Friday night, and since I had been dying to try it out, I went. All Modo classes take place in a 100 degree room with 35% humidity, during my first class, I thought I was going to pass out. (All I could think about was getting fro-yo after thank goodness that has passed).
I went one more Friday, and by that Monday I had signed up for the intro month special, and I have gone 5-6 times a week since. And I truly believe it is some of the best money I have, and will spend.
I am not a very “zen” person, not much can calm me down, readjust my mood, and really stop my mind from thinking about a million different things. But this has. I take all the yogi speak (heart/light/soul etc) with grain of salt, and luckily it is very minimal.
I don’t know if I will stick with forever, but for now, I can’t imagine not going.
Modo has 2 locations in the US, one in LA and one in NYC. If you are in either of the locations, I highly recommend checking out a class!
*if you are ever in the Los Angeles area and interested in attending a class, I have guest pass, feel free to email me kgillett8 @gmail.com if you would like to use one.
