I have been dying to try cronuts since they blew up a couple weeks ago! I am a huge food bandwagoner (hello brussel sprouts!) I was ready to jump on the cronut bandwagon. But the fact that the bakery is so far away, as well as a three plus hour wait, I just knew that a recipe for make your own would pop up sooner than later! And it did!
Since I knew if I made a batch for myself and Andrew, I would eat way too many! So I needed a somewhat big group, our girls trip to Santa Barbara was the perfect excuse to whip theses up!
They were so easy to make. And a lot less intensive than I thought. I am embarrassed to say that I took the easy way out and used the pre made croissant dough instead of making it myself.
I went with doughnut holes instead of the regular size doughnuts because I heard how rich and filling they can be, and people rarely finish one! And they are so right! The doughnut holes worked out perfectly and we were able to snack on them through out the day! I made batch below which was plenty for 5 girls. We were able to share with the hotel staff and our driver!
They would be perfect for a bridal shower, a brunch, or tea!
While I still want to taste the real ones in New York, this recipe is going to help me through! I am already planning on making them for the office breakfast, Andrews first day of school, and as many other reason I can come up with so I can just have one. Or two.
