For todays In Her Seat feature, I am so excited to welcome Ashley from Fancy Ashley! Ashley is more or less super mom, she runs the Fancy Ashley blog along with 2 businesses (I will her tell you about them!) and is a mom to the 2 most adorable kiddos! Seriously, all of her instagrams have me “awwww”-ing. If you aren’t lucky enough to already know Ashley then I am so excited to be the one to introduce you to her, if you do, then sit back with a cup of coffee (preferably in one of her fancy mugs!) in Ashley’s seat and get to know her a bit more!
Tell us a bit about yourself…Hi!!! I am Ashley! I write a blog called Fancy Ashley. It’s a fun mix of my everyday life as a mom, DIY, and all sorts of other fanciness. I also have a small business called Little Presidents Design and another called Fancy! I have an amazing husband and two sweet little kiddos that we refer to as the “little presidents” because they were both named after presidents! I’m so excited to be featured here today!
Tell us about your company…I started my company back when I was prego with my first child, my son, Teddy. I started sewing and making burpies. People started asking if I would sell them and then my business was born. I added the monogram and embroidery part of it when I was prego with my daughter, Reagan. I was always ordering and buying things that were monogrammed so I figured I would teach myself and if it went well, then I would add it to the business. I also sell glitter wineglasses, fancy coffee mugs and ponytail holders. I am a huge fan of making every day, fancy!
How do you spend your day? What is a normal day/schedule for you? I usually wake up between 7 and 8. I get the little presidents out of bed and we all have our morning beverages, they have milk and I have my coffee. I can’t really relate to anything in the morning until I have had at least one cup! If we have nowhere to be, then I will catch up on emails and read some of my fave blogs. Then depending on the day, I will head to the gym or out to run errands/drop Teddy at school. I do some of my work in the afternoon while Reagan naps and while Teddy has quiet tv/play time. Most of the time though, I am working after they are in bed for the night. I log many late hours in my craft suite (that’s what I call my office).
What is the best advice you have received/what is the best advice you can give to someone who wants to start their own company? I would say the best advice I could give is to always follow your dreams and to surround yourself with people who believe in YOU. A good support system is so key. I have the most supportive husband ever and I’m pretty sure if I told him I wanted to walk on the moon, then he would cheer me on and tell me to go for it. This is a huge blessing. I also have some amazing family/friends who support me as well! Surround yourself with people who see greatness in you. You need a cheerleader(s) behind you to pep you up when you are feeling like you can’t go on!
What are your goals for your company? As far as my company, I am adding more Fancy mugs to the collection. There are a few in the works and I am really excited about them. Years ago when I was in college, I bought this mug and I loved it and I always thought I would love to design my own mug some day. I finally did it and I am so excited by how much everyone has loved them! I also hope to add more fancy items to the shop this year!
How do you stay focused/motivated during the day? My days are usually pretty chaotic, errands, school pickup and drop off, that kind of thing so I try to stay focussed on what I need to do! I started making lists and that has helped! When you have a lot going on, it’s easy to forget things…I missed an appointment the other day even though it was on my calendar! I always joke that I live in an over-caffeinated state of bliss and it’s pretty true! Lots of caffeine gets me through my days!
